Hi! I’m Sharla, owner of Minnesota Country Girl. I am an Air Force veteran, single mom, homeschooling mom, gardener, hunter, fisher, explorer of new & exciting places and a little of everything in between!! Here’s a little bit about my life and my background. I graduated high school a year early and joined the US Air Force when I was 17 years old. I had my son at 18 & I’ve been a single parent since day one for 13 years and counting. It’s been the most difficult, inspiring, and yet rewarding experiences of my life. I could not live without my son.
I served 8 years in the US Air Force until 2011 when I had to separate after being diagnosed with fibromyalgia. It definitely wears on you after 7 years of having fibro but I don’t let it get me down. I refuse to allow it to take over my happiness and enjoyment out of life! Once I separated from the military I got my Bachelors degree in Business Management and relocated back to my hometown where I followed my family’s roots…gardening, canning my own vegetables, hunting, fishing, collecting sap and making my own maple syrup, picking fresh wild fruits to make homemade jellies and the list goes on. When it comes to the outdoors, count me in on the adventures!
My son, Mike, has ADHD and alopecia. Alopecia is a hair loss disorder in which he has no hair on his body. He started losing his hair at age 10, a pretty devastating part of our lives, but I try to instill those positive values in him and live our life to the fullest! After 3 years of being back in my hometown, Mike started getting bullied and falling behind in his classes so I decided to homeschool and we’ve never looked back! It has been the best decision to homeschool and we could not be happier! Less stress and anxiety. No getting up rushing to get on the bus and doing homework until bedtime and here I am! Now I’m ready to begin my next adventure in blogging! My mission: To provide you with as much information as I can so you can be self-sufficient.
